Q: Why do some recruiters say that summer is the best time to find a job while others disagree? Is there a definitive answer this year?

A: Generally speaking, summer is not the best time to look for a job. Actually, the first quarter of the year is the best time to start looking. The benefit of looking in the summer is that there tends to be less competition for positions, and firms would like to hire someone quickly rather than wait until the fall. I would say, however, that if you have a desire to leave your law firm in the summer and do not want to wait until the winter, you should start looking now. If you wait until fall, there will be far fewer opportunities because first-year associates shall have begun working and the current associates will be trying to meet their billable hour requirements.
